Wistful Emotions; Violet Evergarden & Frieren: Beyond Journey's End both best represent and illustrate these melancholic yet delicate emotions where the protagonists go on a journey of self discovery as they explore the concepts of interpersonal relationships and emotions within the spectrum of regretful longing. Akin to the feelings of having to smile, even though knowingly it will hurt and that you eventually depart from their lives.
Both are set in the aftermath of a major event as it enters an era of peace and the protagonists go into this said journey of self discovery. They come to realise the depths of human emotions through a

A seemingly "emotionless" female MC goes on a journey to meet all kinds of people, hoping to develop empathy and understand others better.
Both Violet Evergarden and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End are TV series renowned for their high production quality, featuring stunning art, animation, music, and direction. They feature strong heroines on journeys of self-discovery, grappling with human connection and emotions they don't quite understand.
Main characters of both shows (Violet Evergarden in Violet Evergarden, Frieren in Sousou no Frieren) are strong and seemingly emotionless, but as their journey proceeds, they meet many new people who enrich their perspective about the world and, more importantly, human emotions. Their reason of wanting to know humans better is somewhat similar, as it has roots in an important person to each of

Both has a (female) protagonist that's on a journey to find the meaning of certain feelings they yet to understand. Both Anime are also visually and/or aesthetically beautiful.
Two beautiful anime with excellent art direction and beautiful soundtrack. Both anime is about a girl having an emotional journey of understanding.
just makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside while watching it -- and maybe make you cry uncontrollably.

Both depict the stories of young women who are on a journey to unravel messages left to them by people of their past.
While Frieren takes place during European medieval times, Violet Evergarden seems to be post-industrial revolution era. Both girls have light hair and striking light eyes, and are conventionally quite pretty. Their monotone, soldier-like voices are uncanny, but as you continue watching the series you'll notice how many layers of emotions they hide underneath.
While Frieren has more world-building, Violet Evergarden focuses more on Violet's (the main character) psyche and inner turmoils. Whilst sparse, VE does have a

Violet Evergarden is centered around a female protagonist who has deep regrets and emotional scars from her past life. Like Frieren, Violet, often has flashbacks of her past and struggles because she isn't sure how to deal with it.
Violet's mentor told her "I love you" before getting shot. Violet now regrets her time spent with her mentor and is motivated to find out what love means.
Frieren has similar regrets because those around her live short lives. She regrets not spending more time with them.

If you like Frieren, you'll love Violet Evergarden.
From the great animation, music, story, pace, characters. These are both animes where you need to pay attention to a lot of detail, because a lot of work has been put on and the details matter.
Both are relaxing shows with amazing OST's made by Evan Call, you can really hear the similarities. They also involve the MC/MC's learning about human life in the world around them and help people with their struggles . Last of all they are both extremely lovely to watch with a slower-pace than other animes as a breath of fresh air.
Stoic heroine learns to understand human emotion through episodic adventure with somewhat overarching storyline. Both have the same composer for soundtrack and both have insanely high quality animation.
if you finished watching frieren and want to find another 10/10 show that makes you feel sentimental and emotional, I feel like violet evergarden would be the best option for you.

Both are emotional journeys, Frieren similar to Violet is a girl who lost a possible love interest and crew due to there differed life spans, she goes on a quest that requires her to walk through her old adventures and us the watcher reminisces over her old memories along side her. Btw Frieren is a lil more tame then Violet Evergarden, it's very slice of life and focused on learning to value your time together, def go give it a watch!
