Everything I say is my subjective opinion

"I'm Curly, a massive fucking weeb. Anime is my hobby, and I'm a fan of all genres...nice to meet you."

Hello all! My name is Curly, and I have been watching anime ever since I was a kid, but I've only been tracking it since 2020. My favorite genres/themes are Mystery, Suspense, Drama, and Horror. My favorite themes are Psychological, Adult Cast, Detective, Organized Crime, High Stakes Game, and Survival. I don't prefer isekai, harem, sports, or romance, but there will always be exceptions, and I watch all genres. When it comes to romance I prefer GL/BL.

I am a 20 year old university student majoring in English. I speak English fluently and Spanish decently, and I know some basic Japanese. I'm more positive than I am negative. I find I am much happier focusing on the good parts rather than the bad. No anime is perfect but I still dish out 10s if I feel the flaws don't detract enough from what makes it fantastic.

Besides anime I am also really into video games and animation from anywhere else in the world. I only recently started tracking manga on here, so it is not perfectly up-to-date.

Movies aren't included in my favorite anime anymore, but when they were, Kiki's Delivery Service and A Silent Voice were inlcuded.

7-10 is a good rating, 6/5 is a very mixed rating, and 4 and below is a bad rating. But that's just my opinion. I try to rate based on quality and not just personal feelings, but there can never be a truly objective rating of anything.

I am opinionated, but open to other people's opinions. Nothing can be truly objective and I know every anime is someone's favorite, even if it's not mine, and I think that's beautiful. I think it's good to be friends with people who disagree with you. If everyone agreed all the time, the world would be very boring. Always remember, it's just a story!

I think that's the usual HnK experience. I remember watching it with my brother when it was airing, and how we both moved onto the manga after finishing it. I was just 13 years old back then, so I have plenty of good memories from it.

Thank you! I often think that my reviews end up being too long and maybe redundant because I just pour my thoughts into them. I'm glad to see you like it (and if isn't a bother, which one did you read?).

And yeah, haha, it was quite the coincidence, but I was also hooked by your Shigofumi review, and I'm thinking of starting it soon. It's always great to see a fellow Houseki no Kuni enjoyer too!

Thanks for the friend request and nice to meet you!

Is quite funny as just yesterday your review of Shigofumi appeared on my main page and just added it on my plan to watch lol

Thanks for accepting it <3 I saw that we had a very similar taste in anime and your stack on 'Queerness and the Human Condition' was great : )

It's like I said - I couldn't imagine how braces could be curly

Yours was a confusing name for me 😂

OMG hahaha I couldn't, for the life of me, imagine how braces could be curly

How are braces curly?

Absolutely found your words profund!

The scene in the second episode where Ichise falls down on the stairs, lying and staring at a version of him that's just better, I deep down felt that, "no, man, I don't want things to get worse", just looking at a fictional character's soul crushing like that, my heart became alive, my mind became quite clear about stuff, I felt pity for myself, started thinking about helping myself.
Awesh_kun Jul 27, 12:32 PM
It's hard to like something that makes you feel depressed, sick and where you can also see a reflection of yourself, Texhnolyze was a poignant experience, that I want to experience again, as stupid as it might sounds, I think it changed my world view a lot, you see, I was that brat who thought nihilism is cool, but this story made me felt pathetic about that belief, now I just want to give my existence more meaning rather than questioning my very existence at any point of my life, because this life doesn't worth that kind of mental masturbation.
tinshard Jul 26, 8:38 AM
I also don't think Evangelion is full of depression. As you said, the ending is very positive.

I've never been into superhero comics or films, I grew up watching western cartoons on DVD like DuckTales, Tailspin and Rescue Rangers. So I can't really compare BNHA. But yes, it's very charming and full of love, I'll take a few episodes with myself for my vacation too.

Hi there! Nice to meet you!

Understandable question. No, they aren't the same. I didn't explain it properly.

I wanted to say I hate that "life sucks" mentality when everybody just suffers and swears. I want to highlight that I didn't really find this in anime, but novels. These people just write down their own miserable reality and expect others to read it 'cause it's sooo realistic and "beautiful". If you just say "life is suffering" you didn't say anything new or deep.

As for interesting things, yes, that's subjective. But I think if you as an artist try to put some extra into your work instead of tossing depressing reality in front of the crowds that'll be always more interesting.

Overall, when I don't see the red flags right from the start then I usually give it a chance and try to decipher it's hidden meanings.

So far BNHA is fantastic, I'm looking forward to it. Somehow it's touching, despite the hilarious style. Can't really explain how it works but it does.
tinshard Jul 23, 1:12 PM
Yeah. It seems random for me if someone finds something deep or not. It stands or falls on our willingness to dig deeper. If it's not entertaining I often just drop it. If the artist made it for other artists (read: those who don't mind it being depressing and unentertaining) then I won't bother analyzing it. Good stuff should be interesting to make me want to dig deeper. That's what I think.

I think the same about video game lores. I dislike those games that throw me a bunch of NPCs with walls of text saying "here, lore, read it". I prefer to start with a cutscene explaining what's going on and why should I care.
tinshard Jul 23, 1:08 AM
Oh, cool! I'll consider it when choosing anime next time then.

It's because I assumed that unlike me, people usually start with the classics first when looking for anime, so I thought if you've seen more than 300 then you probably watched it already.
tinshard Jul 22, 2:49 PM
I saw Tengoku on many user list. Is it interesting?

Also, is NGE a first time watch or a rewatch?
It’s time to ditch the text file.
