The animation was 10/10, but even the music and voice acting was incredibly on point too. Everything blended so well together, they all deserve credit for this great episode.

@Botther After rewatching the episode and hearing your argument, I can say that I was somewhat wrong. I still stand by the fact that this is an OK animated episode. By OK, I'm specifically referring to the beginning of the episode at least.

To start, the water dragon god still feels too static. Even though he moves a bit more now, he often seems too still when he should be more dynamic. It’s a small detail, but it’s noticeable, especially since Ignia doesn’t have this issue. I can also complain about how Natsu's punch looked poorly animated, but I guess one could argue that it’s intentional.

Everything after the Natsu gets into dragon force, was, at least in Fairy Tail standards, well animated. Perhaps I was maybe too harsh going as for as to say that this is on the same level, if not worse than Final, because after rewatching the episode, at least this episode has made it somewhat better.

@casilo As for your argument, I didn't even see those explosions at first because I thought that segment was still apart of the recap, so yes I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say those explosions were indeed impressive. And I was being a bit harsh saying Final is the "worst animated shounen". It's definitely up there, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that. There's way more issues with that season than just animation, but I won't go into those since they don't really matter all too much.

At the end of the day, it was partially my fault for wanting to expect something more from this series, when already knowing that this show hasn't had the best track record when it comes to animation and sakuga. To which, again, for Fairy Tail's standards, this is probably one of the best animated episodes, at least the second half anyways. Which even that I find impressive, considering that this shitty ass studio has like 16 other shows their working on at the moment.

The studio is VERY much to blame, but the staff isn't. To which, I will give them credit where credit it due, this was a good episode and I can see they put some effort and work into this, given this episode was the make or break for many Fairy Tail fans, it seems. This episode could have been better with a better schedule, but from what we got, yes, this was a good animated episode. Not the best, nor the worst.

@IzanaSolos It is honestly refreshing seeing someone admitting, which is something I do respect a lot. And still in my opinion, when it comes to animation, it is well done. The only thing that you can say that could have been much better was storyboarding. It is one of the most important thing when it comes to show the directing level. The cuts could have been "more" Creative, which is something you could see pretty much on one piece, it was not the animation it self that made it look way too good, but rather the storyboarding. The way the animation was directed is what it made it looks that good, which is could have been the case here but it wasn't. Animation-wise, this episode is well animated, but the storyboarding didn't really show how great the animation is. It was good, yes, but it could have been better, but that's all.

@filthyfrank8142 Saying that there is no Sakuga in this season is just nonsense or are you trying to say that you know better than Sakuga experts, Perhaps? And there is a difference between Character design and animation which is honestly stupid by you to say. lighting, flames, water and wind is art, and "HOW" they are moving is the animation. If you don't know nothing about this field then please leave it because you are just talking nonsense at this point, It obviously you are just hating and not being based on anything artistically.

I mean there is but for the most part there isn't. I'm not gonna say that it has amazing sakuga when they showed it only for 5 seconds. Also character design is part of animation, sakuga is a different category. Ik what I'm talking about, the person who I responded to doesn't bc they think that character design isn't a part of animation when it is.

Ok so for u strong drawings are sakuga. Hmmm interesting, i suggest u watch Baki and Record of ragnarok these shows are made for u.

Character design has a lot to do with animation what are u even talking about? Strong drawings aren't sakuga idk if u read my comment but I literally just defined sakuga damn y'all sound dumb

@IzanaSolos Glad to see u are admitting it. Ft final has lots of issue when come to animation but somehow i still enjoying it lol.
I agree that JC is taking so much project rn but this is seem like a common situation in this industry when studio take many projects even they cannot handle it. At least JC's anime still somehow doesn't melt much like other lol.
Ye, if they have enough time it will be far better. But i will take whatever they've shown here since it already better than slideshow from prev season.

I find it a little funny how everyone can really barely do anything. Then some other dragon god popped in and out and Natsu got a boost from his flames lol.

Never ending plan to watch list...

holy shit. my jaw was dropped for like half this episode. it really feels like fairy tail is back!!!

i can see all the hype about ignia. he’s awesome as an antagonist

i saw a comment last week saying the animation was bad, wdym. this episode was fire (literally). imo this season’s adaptation is already 5x better than the final season haha

the remixed OSTs gave me goosebumps

@MiraStraussFan99 this ep was too good wow

What bothers me is maybe this dragon is more powerful but in the other episodes/seasons they fight so hard and fearlessly. This season it seems they just cry about getting their ass kicked rather than being tuff and trying to fight like in previous seasons. It just feels like their personalities are too different. There are also way too many characters to keep track of so nothing gets very deep.

If this is the end for Mercphobia. RIP. You were a good guy. Natsu fought so hard this time around with the help of Ignia who calls himself the real son of Igneel. Natsu seemed jealous and fairly so. He declared he wants to fight Natsu one-on-one and Natsu is nowhere near strong enough against him. It would be impossible with current Natsu.

But, Natsu looked like after eating that fire, he became uncontrollable until Lucy came in clutch. That was nice. A great episode of Fairy Tail. Really amazing. Animation was amazing as well. And, Peak music as always. Sasuga J.C Staff.

An "I'm getting fired up" immediately followed by "Dragon Force". Natsu extolling the ultimate source of power in the universe; nakama!!! It doesn't get more Fairy Tail than this episode.

Igneel Jr's entrance was pretty bad ass, I figured Natsu would get out of the water spiral but getting saved by the Fire Dragon God who is Igneel's son no less isn't remotely what I was expecting. Saving Natsu so he can be the one to defeat him later is a bit old hat, but eh, I think it still worked and he came off sufficiently powerful and threatening. Honestly got me excited to see what the rest of the dragon gods are like.

Lucy bringing Natsu back from the murder frenzy by embracing him despite the flames was nice, but would've had more impact if I hadn't just finished rewatching Shield Hero a few days ago.

@filthyfrank8142 Preach brother. Peach. This was never a sakuga show, and it clearly never will be with J.C. being at the helm of all of this. The flames, water, ice, and character designs were at their best in 2014, and that's where this show has peaked.
@IzanaSolos @filthyfrank8142 Yall preaching fr, the magic and character designs are relatively a disgrace to the manga art, only at times do they look good. The character designs look so damn childish compared to the previous seasons that it's such a turn off, and the animation is more or less expected to look good in some episodes cause it's a seasonal, so idk why they acting like this. Nevertheless the episode was great, but there are several fights that can easily be better if one was to check all of fairy tail.

Ex. Natsu & Erza vs Jellal

Ignia is like that one cool brother who keeps you grounded while motivating you to do better.

Ignia being the actual son of Igneel is next-level badass.

I enjoyed this episode a lot, but I was a little annoyed by how long some of the exposition was. I loved seeing Natsu using the Fire Dragon God’s flames, as we got a glimpse into how powerful he may become in the future. And if the Water Dragon God is truly dead, then this is the first time Natsu actually lived up to his Dragon Slayer title. (9/10)

Sheeeeeeee, Bro just gave him an E.N.D. power-up!
Go figure Igneel was also a deadbeat father. Looking forward to these two fighting.

Doubt he's dead, if he's dead I'll be absolutely shocked cause this is Fairy Tail. Sure they will be depressed too, since he was a good guy. Also if he's dead, gives me vibe that Fairy Tail is dead too which would be... uncharacteristic of this show.

Imagine going on 100-year quest at risk of your life, and everyone who didn't go is the one's that die... like... wha

It's been so long since I've watched that movie, but I guess I didn't count it because I don't know if it's canon or not. And I never viewed defeating Acnologia as slaying a dragon because he technically wasn't a dragon. He was a dragon slayer who transformed into a dragon, but I still consider him human. Also, killing him wasn't the goal from what I remember. They were trying to seal him, and then he ended up dying after that. This was the first time Natsu actually attempted to kill a dragon and succeeded, (with minimal assistance as well). I guess getting flames from Ignia counts as major assistance, but it was meant to foreshadow what kind of power Natsu may be able to use on his own in the future.

@HotRodster It´s fine! the second movie didn´t fully become canon until Hiro canonzied it in the sequel , You have a point with Acnologia , Yep the Ignia flames are the stronger version of Natsu´s flames , I love this form
