| FMAB was in first place for 10 years and has an ultra-toxic fandom, the very fact of first place put FMAB in the role of an "authority", people like to oppose authorities, a lot of people like to go against the grain and show otherness, the toxic fandom should add fuel to the fire, and yet, hatred for this anime is practically non-existent, I wonder if it's just my bubble or if this anime is really "hate-proof" xD |

never met a single soul who hated fma, nor met anyone who even disliked it...
also, never met a single toxic fan base, so I honestly think it's just your perception. leave it be, it's because fma is an emotionally gripping tale weaved from a fabric that has something to offer for even the most die hard anime fan is my guess

| @Salvaged toxic fans are a fact, anyone will tell you that, they take the first place on this site too seriously and a lot of shit always comes out of it xD although it seems that since MAL prevents review bombing, they have calmed down, but it was really bad before. |

| Ignore MAL ratings, they are not important. Most of my favourites have less than 8 MAL rating. XD Based on my experience, MAL users are rather young, so they have a strong bias towards battle-shounens, hopes that answers your question. |
| What "Ultra-Toxic Fandom"? |
| Most MAL user don't care about the ranking dick contest this site has. FMAB is still up there because it has been seen by thousands of people, that mostly seen it very positively. The "Toxic fandom" is but a small part of the FMAB fans. Honestly I only see people talking about the "toxic fma fandom" when I come to Mal, and most of the time it's a pissing contest between two fandoms (often FMA and Gintama) to say their show is better. If you care about that ranking pissing contest, they're "toxic fans" if you don't, you don't even see those guys. The show is good anyway, being first or 7th doesn't really change anything. When you look at the other member of the top 5, SnK was such a success it broke mainstream, becoming a phenemenum outside of the anime community. Like FMA did in its time. SteinGate is known for its excellent story. It's not a surprise any of those is there. There good show with good writing, and a huge fanbase. Frieren is recent, so here is the hype. I'm more surprised Gintama is even there. Gintama is a niche show, and I always was under the impression that most people don't really care about it. It's to manga an anime what Warhammer 40k has been to science fiction over the past 30 years, something hyped by the fans, yet mostly ignored by 95% of people that might be part of the target audience. |

| It's funny because I constantly hear complaints about the FMAB fanbase, yet at least here on MAL that fanbase seems pretty chill and I can't remember ever seeing them stir shit; it's usually other fanbases who make threads whining about FMAB being the #1 anime for years despite the fact that rankings really shouldn't matter anyway. |
