have mixed feelings about this. I read 2.5 a long time ago and got up to date with it when it had about 30 chapters, and I kinda just forgot about it, but I liked it a lot. Hearing it got an anime got me pumped up, but after watching this episode, it felt off, and after re-reading the first 3 chapters it's apparent. They censored A LOT. Not just a panel or two, they censored PAGES of stuff. If we pretend that isn't a major issue, then the rest of the anime does seem to look great, and the fact it has a 24 episode run time is really surprising.

I know this manga isn't focused on it's ecchi, and I believe they tone it down later in the story, but when censoring is this blatant and apparent it feels very unsettling. I'm just gonna re-read the manga and catch up to it, while also watching the anime weekly. I massively prefer watching anime in general, but alas....

This is my opinion and my experience as well, but I read till like chapter 60ish? At least I know what will happen until the anime finishes, but yeah, this has amazing quality, kinda reminds me of the level they did To love ru with

but too much cut content and balant censorship

oh well, it is what it is
@Zero_r2 The raws I have show nipples for chapters 2 and 3 but not for page you posted. I wonder what's up with that. This probably means that the nipples in that panel was drawn in by a fan but I'm not sure.

The first impression it gives is the similarity with "My Dress Up Darling" but maybe it is a little bit spicier? At least in the manga it is, but in anime it was censored a bit. The animation is reasonably well done by J.C. Staff, and it's good, bu, well, I'm traumatized by One-Punch Man season 2.

It reminds me a lot of Ijiranaide, Nagatoro, though the female leads are quite diffrent. But it was amusing and I look forward to more of the anime-fandom parodies!

The romance part is also off to a good start, as the two have good chemistry. Funny how it's always the fanservice shows that actually manage to put two (or more) characters who fit each other together.

Didn't really like it. Too much fanservice, don't know how they will make 24 eps out of this but I'm also not a manga reader.
So far prefering Dress up Darling to this.

And guess what anime industry has gone soft. They're censoring too much stuff these days. The manga is better, if you want some good fan service read the manga. what's point of adapting a ecchi manga? if you censor the shit out of it.

I agree I’m missing the nips that were in the manga, but sadly the manga also started censoring them at some point

Am I the only one who is not getting the show on Crunchyroll, or its only available in select region.
If so what regions does it air in?

I checked the US and Netherlands but it still shows unavailable!
@JD-Dark_Phoenix In Germany it's on Crunchyroll

Gotta love me some pure, unbridled otaku anime, all the more so when it's about sexy cosplays. Not the biggest fan of the male protagonist, but the girls are all pretty cute with interesting personalities. Will definitely watch this till the end.
Unfortunately though, the anime is quite censored, as had been hinted already by the author a long time ago. Instead of just censoring the nipples, they're doing away with other things that they didn't need to remove too though, like underboobs and butts.

@DarkDooM2 A friend said I should read the manga.. Now I know why 😂

They get straight to the point in the first episode, nice.

It catches my attention, not so much because of the plot but because I feel that it will be a generic ecchi, and I love that xd

Ecchi harem anime about a high school club that's about how an incel otaku comes to appreciate real women? Am I back in the 00s? But anyway, I'll watch it for scientific interest lmao. Also, I have long been accustomed to the existence of based women who are just as obsessed with ecchi and fanservice as men. But are there really girls who fetishize the possibility of making men horny? As a man, I would also like to look hot for girls and myself, but I have never been that obsessed with it.

Good starting, otaku theme, nice fan service with this cute and pretty Ririsa. Wait and see what will happen, and we have the queen Akari Kitou in seiyuu too so we have got 24 episodes of pleasure ^^

@Augmented58 i think they will play a lot with the ecchi (not against it but hope it will not be to the idea otaku = pervert)
just sad too see this anime have 24 episodes but My Dress Up Darling only 12and we don't have news about the 2nd season for the moment

Volcel otaku meets goonette obsessed with the same character as he is; hilarity (and maybe romance?) ensues.

I didn't have the highest hopes for this show, tbh, expecting it to be a mid-tier Dress-up Darling clone, but this 1st episode was way funnier than I expected it to be! This show has some potential, let's see where this goes!

This was a very good first episode. Great adaptation all around. They really captured the appeal the manga has gained and made the first 3 chapters far more concise for anime. I didn't think they'd be actually able to do it considering how *ahem* top heavy the first volume or so is compared to what comes after.

I've already got the 3 figures they've announced preordered lol. Just wow, they did this justice. Okumura's va is great lmao. Ririsa's va is great. And the show looks great. JC Staff killed it.

The censorship discussion is really flavor of the week stuff that doesn't really matter. We have a good idea of what's coming from the slew of merch theyve revealed.
If you're here for just risque situations a la Dress Up Darling though, this series isn't for you. It ends after next episode. This wouldn't be 24 eps if that was the case like sonobisque lol

It's still ecchi, but like, all the people man-at-arms about how much less risque this ep is to the manga is like, see you near the end of the year when you're crying to the drama. Like they didnt change any of the Four Heavenly Queens which they bothered to show AT ALL, why should I care about the extras in a flashback. Anime fans are so funny.

I was a bit surprised at the writing for this first episode. The love for cosplay was expected but Ririsa's character struck me as quite believable. Sempai suffers from some of the usual overacting of surprise and shock but again, I could see him as a real person.
Will continue to follow this one.

A little TOO otaku wish fulfillment, geez. What made My Dress Up Darling so good, IMO, was that the guy WASN"T an otaku.
@MenchiK1 ???
Gojo was the embodyment of an otaku, just not by west standards but by the original japanese definition, which is someone obsessed with one hobby (you can be a manga otaku, but also a baseball otaku, a music otaku, etc) and no one was more obsessed with one thing that fucking Gojo and his sick love for those dolls.

I had high hopes from the manga being recc'd to me in a server. I wonder if the Blu-ray will be de-censored. Certain recent series have proven adaptations that keep the raunchiness of their source material can still gain popularity.
Ririsa having an eye for accuracy and staying in-character after Senpai caught her fall were the highlights of the episode for me.

Novels I have read/am reading pending approval: since November 10 2022

@CorbanEsp Not the original definition, 'otaku' originally was specifically a manga obsessive, the word means 'house' and refers to having a house full of manga. A term like "baseball otaku" is, strictly speaking, a metaphor saying "as obsessed with baseball as an otaku is obsessed with manga".

@Alkimia I mean the anime probably isnt adapting the the extra chapters too. Chapters that are exclusive to the volume releases and they are like, really great, sometimes fanservice, sometimes even more time with a certain character. They clearly want this to be a major multimedia project so that you have many ways to enjoy 2.5 Dimensional Seduction. And by all means theyre succeeding with the numbers on the crane game figures based on the anime designs already

Hm, as someone who didn't even plan to watch this despite reading the mediocre manga, I still don't really care much about this. Sure there's comedy parts which are a bit funny but I might have a major issue with this obsession this dude has over Liliel. It's kind of creepy. I'll have to see if I'll continue but as the same as the manga, I'm not having high expectations of this.

I had a lot of laughter, entirely over him adequately trying to be 2D only, and is usually good with that.

Cosplay is so cool, I never see irl though since never go to comiccons, or animecons? I don't know stuff. (excluding a family friendly comic con I had on my installation I brought my kids to. LOTS of kids/people in those Demon Slayer pipemouth girl cosplays.
Life is better when can get in to stuff. More enjoyable to analyze and embrace then look aware and fear/anger.
Appears he went from 3 bros to 1 bra.

For now it's nice, 4/5 for the episode.

@Zero_r2 The quality of the anime can't be disputed, the censorship on the other hand is very blatant and turns a 9/10 (maybe even a 10/10 done correctly) into an 8/10.

However I've read a bit further than you have at this point and the manga gets a lot less edgy (and in my opinion, quite more boring) around chapter 30-40 or so.
