Jujutsu Kaisen 2nd Season

The year is 2006, and the halls of Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School echo with the endless bickering and intense debate between two inseparable best friends. Exuding unshakeable confidence, Satoru Gojou and Suguru Getou believe there is no challenge too great for young and powerful Special Grade sorcerers such as themselves. They are tasked with safely delivering a sensible girl named Riko Amanai to the entity whose existence is the very essence of the jujutsu world. However, the mission plunges them into an exhausting swirl of moral conflict that threatens to destroy the already feeble amity between sorcerers and ordinary humans.

Twelve years later, students and sorcerers are the frontline defense against the rising number of high-level curses born from humans' negative emotions. As the entities grow in power, their self-awareness and ambition increase too. The curses unite for the common goal of eradicating humans and creating a world of only cursed energy users, led by a dangerous, ancient cursed spirit. To dispose of their greatest obstacle—the strongest sorcerer, Gojou—they orchestrate an attack at Shibuya Station on Halloween. Dividing into teams, the sorcerers enter the fight prepared to risk everything to protect the innocent and their own kind.

The 1st season of Jujutsu Kaisen left people wanting for more, and when season two was announced it created expectations that seemed almost impossible to meet and no way that it would be able to improve. Fortunately, MAPPA up their game: the new animation style allowed for smooth and was one of main reason that we had seen one of the best choreography for fight scenes since Naruto.


Besides the animation, the voiced actor captured the manga emotions with many of scenes, both sub and dub achieved this effect and gave those most talked about manga panels the respect it deserved. gojo's and geto's emotions ... in the hidden inventory arc showed what the plot holes created from the movie.

Overall thats most of what i can say with any major spoilers. give this watch if your into Shonen with a decent story backing up masterpiece of fight scenes in anime.

Mixed Feelings

This show is unfortunately pretty similar to Demon Slayer in terms of its good points and bad points. What I mean by that is that its animation quality is pretty darn amazing, while its story and pacing are pretty lackluster.

The magic system and fights going on seem thought out and pretty inventive. A decent bit of it went over my head, but I was nonetheless satisfied with the visuals going on to not really question it much. From the start the stakes are high and engaging, though they devolved drastically once the infamous Shibuya Incident was underway. The gratuitous destruction and death quickly evaporated whatever ... stakes there were, along with most of the engagement and interest I had with the characters. I found myself repeatedly questioning what was keeping me watching, and the answers weren't entirely satisfying: "It looks cool, at least;" "A lot of people really like this show;" "I sort of want to know who will die next." It was kind of that marginal interest like watching a horror movie simply for its expected gratuitousness. Interesting, but leaving a sense of disappointment for the amount of potential fun to be had.

It's kind of weird saying the story felt lacking since many plot-changing events happened. To start with the more apparent flaws, I can't count how many times a deus ex machina was used (for both protagonists and antagonists). It was momentarily hype when the first couple happened, then it kind of became ridiculous and frustrating. Every fight bled into another, leading to no fights really feeling resolved. That lack of resolution was felt by the end of the season, and where the season ended left me even more confused. All the deaths that were racked up along the way from insignificant fodder to main characters felt more or less the same, with the passing thought, "Oh, I guess they're dead." It's pretty disappointing MCs went out that way with all the time previously given to them. I think there were attempts to have some deaths give a pang, but they generally didn't land and they felt very unearned. The repeated interruptions of the ongoing plot with flashbacks were at first awkward, then became uninteresting filler in which I pulled out my phone to busy myself with something interesting while checking back to see if the primary plot had resumed. I'm acquainted with the use of flashbacks in anime and there are quite a few I recognize as utilizing them to great effect (Haikyuu for example), however here they were more distracting and like non-sequiturs. All in all, the combination of unceasing fights and disruptive flashbacks made for an unsatisfying experience when it comes to the story and pacing--kind of like being fed breadcrumbs at varying intervals and never a full, satisfying bite.

There were a few other things that bothered me that go into spoiler territory that I'll vaguely say involved characters having the chance to do something that would obviously solve something and the characters, for whatever reason, did not do it. Anyway, it's not all bad as there's the bones of an engaging plot here. If it was elevated to the level of the visuals, it could've been something like what the majority of people seem to already think about this show.

The single best example of wasted potential. Obviously nothing is perfect, everything has flaws, but this is an oddity because all of it's issues are tied to it's creator intentionally sabotaging it.

He made a world that took off, the setting, the characters, the fights, the power system were all well received. Instead of making the most of the opportunity to explore his own fiction, tell a story,entertain the masses while raking in the money, he has openly admited he is doing everything humanly possible to ruin it, of course he doesn't use that terminology but has publicly said that he kills characters not because it ... advances the story, not because it develops other characters, not because it serves any purpose, he kills characters solely because they are popular.

There has only been one singular death that has been well handled because it served as a plot point to advance the story, but all the other crap that happens in season 2 and that will happen going forward is objective poor writing.

Make no mistake, there are plenty of anime that have main/recurring characters dying in unceremonious ways but they handle it properly becuase their deaths may not be a drawn out, dramatic 10 episode arcs, but they serve a purpose, even if that purpose is simply to showcase that nobody is safe or how great the threat is they face. JJK however does none of this, the events in season 2 do not tell us anything that has not already been shoved down our collective throat since day 1 and serves no discernable purpose whatsoever. Here is Gege's "logic":
"millions of people enjoy my creation and want to see more of it, instead of paying any attention to them, I will systematically destroy my own lore and arbitrarily kill my best characters in flat, unceremonious ways so that people on social media whose only interaction with my creation comes in the form of memes and reels will brand me as "edgy""

If you want to watch a show, written by a man deliberately and continually using objectively poor writing to waste most of the cast while intentionally missing every possible opportunity for good story telling, decent character development, taking advantage of literally limitless powers, then maybe this is worth a watch.
However, if you want cohesive or even coherent story telling that does not actively waste it's own fiction, this is not for you.
