So first of all, I'm just happy that Fujimaki finally got another job serialized after that flop golf manga, since he's genuinely a great writer, and this work is proof of that... kinda. First of all, though it may sound like a trending type of plot in the current shonen climate, it's a step ahead of the many... many manga that have given it a try by makin the middle aged assassin not attracted to children, let's start with that. The relationships, the settings, they're all very good and entertaining, it's a series that sets itself apart from the rest. The only downside to this ... manga, and one i hope the author becomes aware of and finds a way to fix so this keeps on being serialized, is that he clearly believes at this point he can only make a manga work by using the Kuroko no Basket formula... which turns into some of the cast being cleat rip-offs of the Generation of Miracles, which really isn't needed for this story and only takes focus away from the spy plot, making this a regular school story with quirky kids. I mean, ANOTHER DID system and a troubled teenage sport genius? Don't get me wrong, KNB is my favorite manga, but it's because of that that i know he doesn't need to do all that twice as if that's the only thing he can make work with. All in all, although I have mixed feelings on its quality going forward, it's still so original with the kind of mature MC i always long to see, a very very comedic work with lots of action, so ill beg anyone to read it so long as i keep being able to read this for longer

The writer’s effort to blend these genres together is commendable, though at times, the narrative only scratches the surface of each genre without fully delving into them. This approach might leave some readers wanting more depth in each specific genre.

Despite this minor flaw, the series truly shines in its ... ability to create a delightful and feel-good atmosphere. It excels in crafting memorable and likable characters who resonate deeply with readers. Jozo Oogami, Noren Mitsuoka, Ryo, Kotatsu, Kazuma, and others are more than just names on a page, they are literally brought to life with unique personalities, relatable struggles, and genuine growth. Their interactions are heartwarming and often humorous, making you root for them and feel invested in their journeys. The depth of their relationships and the authenticity of their emotions add richness of experience to the story.

Moreover, the art style complements the narrative beautifully. The illustrations are detailed and expressive, while the character designs are impeccably created. This visual appeal enhances the overall reading experience, making each page a visual feast.

In conclusion, I highly recommend checking this manga out! It's engaging characters, enjoyable storyline, and beautiful artwork make it a worthwhile read. Whether you are in the mood for heartwarming moments, comedic relief, action this series offers a little something for everyone. It’s a joyful escape that will leave you with a smile and a sense of connection to the characters long after you are done reading.

I’m still very much ambivalent about this series and don’t fully understand the push Jump is giving it. The issue that has plagued it so far is that it seems to sample many genres without establishing itself well enough in any.

It has potential as a character driven story with the protagonist’s emotional growth as a middle aged man in a middle grade student’s body providing enough stimulus to keep it engaging, but unfortunately it doesn’t feel the character writing is strong enough to convince me that the character is some 40 something year old, as he often sounds like he’s just some fragile child ... navigating puberty.

The action and comedy aspects of the series haven’t meshed so far, and while I feel there is more to get out of the comedic situation the premise sets up, it just doesn’t lean enough into it to classify it a comedy. The mystery too isn’t engaging as yet, but I recognise it’s still early in the series.

Kill Blue has seemingly taken aspects popularised in other series and assembled them together haphazardly. While I can see this series sticking around due to its inoffensive nature in a magazine always committed to a handful of its kind, I don’t foresee it being anything more impactful or memorable than its current standing. Given the strength of the author’s previous works, I hold out a small hope it develops into something worth following in the future. But for now its pieces have nothing going for it to make it a worthy weekly read.
