Madougushi Dahliya wa Utsumukanai

After dying of overwork in Japan, Dahlia is reborn into a world filled with magic. Raised by a master of magical toolmaking, she develops a passion for the craft and becomes engaged to her father's apprentice. Before her father can see her wed, however, he suddenly passes away. As if this weren't enough, on the day before their wedding, her fiancé announces that he's in love—but not with her!

Dahlia finally realizes she needs to live for herself. She vows to be her own woman from now on and devote herself to her craft, even if it's not quite the quiet life she was hoping for! From a chance encounter with a knight to starting her own company, there are challenges aplenty on the horizon. My narrow knowledge responds that ale is usually drunk at room temperature or slightly colder.
Dahlia said of her late father, Carlo, that he was a sucker for icy-chilled ale in the summer.

A hint of romance is getting stronger since episode 4. However, the atmosphere is still not overly sweet yet. The protagonist is neither a hysteric screamer, fearing for strangers extremely, nor overpowering like Mary Sue. Her emotional stability is not bad for me.

But I'm getting uneasy about the lack of research and idealization that is common in original works by female authors is evident in certain aspects, like the military, social systems or daily ... life of ordinary people. Cups of black tea and triangular BLT sandwiches...

The topic of ale is probably refers the original line in the novel.
Almost all beer consumed in Japan in large quantities is pilsner (lager). I suppose that the author has a book-learned concept of ale as "an exotic beer that pre-modern Europeans and people in the fantasy world drink" and wrote with little doubt, that it was served keenly chilled as the same as lager beer (if this anime were a comedy, the creators could have labeled the drink "shuwa-shuwa.")

Although I have not read the original writing, the theme of it could be like this: "a story of a female office worker who has collapsed and been LOOKING DOWN on her desktop and died from overwork. In the isekai, where she is reincarnated, she faces difficulties, including the breakup of her engagement. However, she receives support and respect from those around her and lives undauntablly, achieving success as an independent woman."
In Japan, there is a half-century-long tradition of serial TV dramas that run for 15 minutes every morning at 8:00 a.m. and last for six months. Consistently, these themes are a woman's life story (the famous "Oshin" is one of such). This anime is something similar to these.

I noticed the anime's English title, "Dahlia in Bloom," from an underrated review. I don't tune to the criticism, but I'd agree with that this title is terrible. The English title of the light novel is "Magic Artisan Dahlia Wilts No More". Yes, this translation is literally the same as the Japanese version. The once-blighted flower must raise her face for the other sunshine and pursue to bloom into her true colors.

It's not an anime particularly distinguished. Some details are a bit flat. But the total tone is natural and leaves an impression of honesty. The story has a tip of a variety of matureness -- bitter and sweet like a pair of weighty mugs of ale. The interior design of the inventors' workshop and residence is appealing.
Among this work, I love the grounded topics such as paperwork procedures or establishing a company, and Dahlia's moderate geekiness. I hope that these will not get buried beneath fluffy stuff. What will prevail inside her heart - affection, curiosity or other?
Such a heroine with unruly red hair and glasses is bound to be alchemized.

Woman dies from overwork and gets reborn into a magical world, where people invent and build modern tools reimagined to work with magic related systems: Magic stones, magical circuits, etc.

And then you can forget it all because it turns out none of that is the actual main focus of the series, but just the protagonist's personal relationship with the people around her, followed by a lot of gossip, shoulder sharing, drama, love, betrayal, and several other romance related things, while only around 10% of it being actually about the exploration of modern tools and gadgets reimagined to work in a magical world.

If you like ... soft romance and drama things, go for it, if you expect it to be any deeper or to actually explore the themes it starts us with, you will probably be disappointed

TLDR

This is NOT an Isekai and slice of life that talk about magic tools and inventions.
This is a shoujo and romance anime.


There are some basic things wrong, in this anime. That’s what i correlated on the 4 episodes i've seen, literally 1/3 of the anime.

Just follow me, my argumentations are pretty easy to understand.

... - We start with the title: “Dahlia in Bloom: Crafting a Fresh Start with Magical Tools”, what do you understand reading it? What do you feel and imagine reading the title?
At first glance, there is someone, probably a Girl from the name, she is on her best form, that’s why she is blooming; she’s probably a craftsman that makes magic tool, and maybe she is blooming because she had a bad experience, and she’s starting fresh new.
So, we know that’s basically someone that craft magic tools, right? So you would expect an anime where there is a girl that craft magic tool.

- If we study the info about the anime, we know it’s a fantasy, a slice of life and an isekai.
So, this girl is probably reincarnated, in a fantasy environment, where she crafts magic tools and the anime is about her crafting, and so i would expect seeing like the process of crafting, getting idea for things, making things, maybe some economy parts too, etc.

Do you know what is an isekai? I don’t want to quote the all Wiki article, but what make sense to be an isekai in the end, is the fact that the person that got reincarnated/move to the new word, keep the memory of itself and remember almost everything of what append.

So, you have the base, now i would analyse the 4 episodes i see:

- The anime start with the scene of a woman, doing spreadsheet and then having a nap on the keyboard (probably dead, i know that spreadsheet can be mortal). Then the anime start with the “new world part”. The rest of the first episode is related to the protagonist, we would see her from child to adult.
The isekai part, it’s 30 second, and there is no other mention all along the other 3 episodes and i’m sure that’s all i would see, considering we have already seen her grow to an adult and don’t remember anything.

What they think? That adding the “Isekai” tag to an anime, make it more popular?
They could have removed the first 30 second, and wouldn’t have matter anything to the anime, and its story. Yes, there is a situation where the girl “invent” something not available on the new words, a hair dryer, wow, that’s it? Or the raincoat? If this is the isekai related part, that she’s not an inventor at all, copying things that already exist, that would break the all story even more!

- Then we have the all story itself, i told you before, that from the title, you would imagine an anime about crafting and invention, right?
Wrong, that’s a Shoujo, it talks about romance. The anime is all centre to the woman protagonist, her personal relationship, gossip with friends and people around her, about the romance situation, some bad write drama, be betrayed and other love and romance. Do you think i would watch it, knowing it was a romance anime? NO.

All 4 episodes are related to romance situation, with a small part on the first episode, related to inventions. That’s it, there is no “Magical tool” and the fresh start too is related to a new romance start. That’s the classic romance anime where the protagonist get her first bad experience, and then she knows the men of her life. Done.

I think a better title for this anime is: “Dahlia in Love”. A title like that, surely wouldn’t attract people like me, that would have love, to watch a slice of life about craftsmanship, and invention.


In the end, after having a wrong title and genres, where even the author don’t know what he/she is writing; the anime is generally mediocre, with basic art and animation, some ok CGI for the flame/magic animation, general light and some strange bubble you see in the background sometimes. The story and trama is pretty basic and obvious, with the second episode we can already know how the anime would finish, considering it’s a pretty standard romance story. The script is poor, but in line with a basic romance story. Character development is pretty bad, starting from how the protagonist react to some bad romance act in the first 2-3 episode with her fiancé, and after how everything develops. Of course there is almost no growth from the main character, about magic tool and craftsmanship in general.

That’s a bad anime, and it feels like the story too is probably bad written, not just a bad transposition. I would finish it, and i would probably lower the vote to 4.
Personally, i’m not impressed, that’s pretty standard, the average anime quality in the last 7/8 years, has dropped a lot, finding good show in new seasons it’s pretty rare, without talking about sequel of other anime.

Don’t waste your time, avoid this anime.
