Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu

Despite being bullied, scorned, and oppressed all of his life, a 34-year-old shut-in still found the resolve to attempt something heroic—only for it to end in a tragic accident. But in a twist of fate, he awakens in another world as Rudeus Greyrat, starting life again as a baby born to two loving parents.

Preserving his memories and knowledge from his previous life, Rudeus quickly adapts to his new environment. With the mind of a grown adult, he starts to display magical talent that exceeds all expectations, honing his skill with the help of a mage named Roxy Migurdia. Rudeus learns swordplay from his father, Paul, and meets Sylphiette, a girl his age who quickly becomes his closest friend.

As Rudeus' second chance at life begins, he tries to make the most of his new opportunity while conquering his traumatic past. And perhaps, one day, he may find the one thing he could not find in his old world—love.

Its controversial. But it's like that to tell a story.
Yes, the MC is a first shown as a pedophile/creep, but he's shown to change for the better.

The anime a strong "slow burner", they practically spend the first few episodes just building his character and who he is, and his regrets.
He's not your typical "Cool Guy" or anything, he's a sad pathetic worthless individual at first, someone you hate, and that's because, the largest part of this anime, and to me, the most important factor that makes it unique, is the development and slow change you see over time with how the MC acts and behaves. ... His past actions will always haunt him, but he will learn to accept that and choose to be a better person.

He was chosen to be such a controversial character because it makes character development important, otherwise, it'd remain a neutral part of the story, something that lays in the back of your head, like "Oh, huh this dude really become more likeable over the past 2 seasons", instead you'll go "This dude is so fucking disgusting" to "Damn he's a badass"

If this kind of subject is something you still aren't comfortable with, or you don't care much for story, its your right to avoid it, but if you value strong character development and majority focus on telling a deep story, this is perfect for you.

Mixed Feelings

I want to preface this review with I do not condone casual child molestation or pedophilic tendencies. This is the worst part of sub-genres of Japanese media, and I'm a straight woman so there is zero fanservice in it for me. However, this 'quirk' of the character aside (which is seriously concerning, to be honest), this anime is an absolute masterpiece. I would rate it higher without this problem (maybe not 10, but 9.5). It combines the best of all other anime I've enjoyed - slice of life, coming of age, adventure journeying, magic, etc. The main character, again ecchi aside, is one of the ... strongest developed main characters I've seen in a very long time. The other characters are written in a way that is believable - and the anime does an amazing job of figuring out what makes people tick, how they act, etc. and writing convincing people in. The pacing is perfect - not too slow, not too fast. The artwork is just gorgeous, and I love the pastoral scenes. And let's not even talk about the soundtrack - it's beyond gorgeous, and I love how they don't just play the same introduction as every other anime. It's different for every episode, and much shorter!

I put mixed feelings as I know quite a lot of people won't be able to overlook the borderline assault and unnecessary sexual scenes. Somehow I don't have a visceral bad gut reaction to it personally, so I can overlook it. I have very high standards and I've watched countless anime for over a decade now. Most anime is not done well - bland tropes that are repeated, predictable plot lines, and surface level characters. This one makes it into my top 5 anime of all time (alongside Attack on Titan, Death Note, Haikyuu!!, and Your Lie in April), and I'm shocked I didn't give it a try earlier.

It's hard to say anything that hasn't already been said, so I'll keep this brief.

The show has potential, but its appeal quickly diminishes. The music is great, and the art and production quality are impressive. However, the story is a chaotic mess (literally the best way to describe it). The show also tries to make light of pedophilia, rape, sexual harassment, etc. I don't mind some ecchi content, but this show handles it terribly.

I summary, the show is pretty scummy, and other reviews have already covered it extensively. Bottom line, if you've read through my rambling review, you might still want to give this show ... a chance. If so, go ahead and watch it. Good luck.
