People might say humor is subjective, but some things are really just not funny. After 3 episodes I can count on one hand how many times I laughed, smiled or even blew air out of my nose a little. Every joke feels forced and most of them have no punchline. The so called gag humor this anime is supposed to have are just desperate attempts to randomly catch you off guard but it just makes things weird instead of making you laugh. The only notable parts in terms of humor are pop cultural references, but they're not that frequent.
The show also likes to use Koshitan
...
as a punching bag, constantly. In itself it's not a bad thing, it worked quite well in Bocchi the Rock, but it doesn't work here because this show overdoes it + the unseriousness of the environment makes it boring very quickly.
The best part of the show is the opening and the marketing, it sells you an idea that you get into some silly comedy. Instead you get into a weird, chaotic, uncanny universe that tries to be funny by throwing the most random "jokes" at you labeled as gag humor. It reminds me of the chatoic nature of MLG memes back in the day, but at least that's supposed to be a parody.
Watching one episode will help you decide if you wanna watch the whole thing or not because all episodes are similar and it won't get any better or worse.

Very easy to love romance anime. It can be divided into 2 parts, the first half being romance heavy, focusing mostly on the 2 MCs, and a second half where side characters take over the screentime and the show feels a lot more like a slice of life anime with romance a bit less focus on romance.
From what I gathered in discussions, the anime skips a ton of manga chapters. Many of it were okay to skip to keep the show romance focused, that's very justifiable, but there are also important parts that shouldn't have been cut and makes the pacing too fast at times.
...
Most likely the thought process was that they were not sure if the show will be popular enough for a 2nd season, so they wrapped things up so it adapts the story in just 1 season with closure. Hindsight is 20/20, the show ended up being popular and they released a sequel that adapts what was cut.
With that being said, the only negative I can say about the show is the weird pacing for the reasons above. It's a shame the adaptation turned out this way, but at the same time who knows how it would've turned out if they adapted the whole thing in 2 parts.
Honestly, this is a slice of life anime, even with the amount of chapters cut from the source material. The story is very simple, there's a minimal driving force through romance, but for the most part things just happen, and that's okay. Miyamura's character is very detailed compared to Hori, and especially compared to all other characters. Among the side characters there are ones more depth and there are ones with less, could be due to the heavy cuts from the source material.
Artisticly I liked the anime a lot. I like Cloverworks animations, the OST is fine too. What really stood out is the opening, this is the only anime where I never skipped the opening. The song is catchy, the visuals are really pretty and detailed, but most importantly the opening perfectly captures the vibe and theme of the show, it's exciting yet calming.
Common sense would tell me it's an 8 because of the weird pacing during the 2nd half and the missed potential due to the cut chapters, but the experience of getting to know these characters and their feelings and their story was just a very pleasant experience that not many anime in this genre can pull off. Anything below 9 doesn't do this show justice.

First time I've watched an anime of this genre, so I can't really compare it to anything I usually watch, but I'd say it's good. Story isn't very complicated so far, characters are a bit one dimensional, but I guess there's room for character development with upcoming season(s). Other than that I don't think I have any other criticism.
The animation is really nice, for that alone it was worth starting watching it. Fighting scenes are detailed and fluid, but even non-action scenes stand out to some extent. If you'd like to give a try to this genre I'd say this is a good one to
...
start with.

There's a lot of hate around the show (so far), it might make you think it's hard to like but that's not true at all. If anything, the show is misunderstood. I like the show for what it is. At first it was a just a casual shoujo romance with no drama tag, a relaxing and cute evening watch. But now that all the episodes aired, this show captures perfectly how 2 weirdos fall in love, it's not that "cute shy" way, it's a bit more realistic kind of awkwardness. This alone makes the show unique at least in this genre, trying to show real
...
weirdness rather than staying on the safe side and catering to the viewer.
The 2 MCs are both very weird in their own ways, Hotaru is a socially awkward, naive girl, Hananoi is an obsessive, creppy boy. They both have their reasons to be this way. This alone makes it hard for their relationship to start working, creates a lot of awkward moments, it makes their progress slow, it really is a slow burn love story, but it's not a bad thing at all unless you come in expecting something else.
Most of their interactions and the steps they take towards each other are subtle but meaningful, that's what makes the show work. You get excited at the smallest things, you celebrate their tiny victories, the slightest inconveniences take a toll on them, that's the nature of their relationship given their background.
There's a heavy focus on the MCs which is good, no boring/annoying side characters to waste screentime, or if there is it's because they directly take part in the main story (or will in the future).
Only thing I had issues with is the pacing, things slow down/speed up sometimes in an awkward way and some storylines get dropped on your randomly. Art is mediocre at best, I didn't find it outstanding in either a good or a bad way, though there were some nice scenes.
With that being said, there has to be a 2nd season coming later on, it's not a full adaption (not only because the manga is still being published, but also because many things in the story are just not addressed yet), so this is more like a review of the 1st season with the benefit of the doubt that this was made with a 2nd season in mind. However, if this anime was made with no 2nd season in mind, it changes everything ranging from gaping plot holes to unfinished story which would lower the rating to ~6.

Frustrating, but not because it's bad or anything like that, it's because it's not a full adaptation. The anime ended while the manga was still dropping, a 2nd season never came, only 2 OVAs. If half adaptations are a dealbreaker for you then you're probably not gonna be pleased. At the same time, me personally I doubt I would've started this anime if I knew it has a missing 2nd season (that will 99% never come) but I'm happy I did anyways.
The story itself is pretty basic shoujo romance, almost like any other, but it does a good enough job telling the story to keep
...
you interested, that's the most a shoujo romance can do 99% of the time. It keeps you on your feet, pushes your buttons all in the right way. There are no major issues with the 2 MCs, but the rest are just bland and empty. Of course all characters are shoujo clichés, but at least the MCs have a story to tell and strong emotions to feel attachment, the rest offer nothing but cliché.
The way I put it sounds like it's a boring trash anime, but it's really not, it's hard to put into words how the pacing feels natural and the storytelling keeps you interested throughout all 12 episodes and even the OVAs. It's easier to talk about the negatives anyways. While it's not a unique anime it's still a very enjoyable watch, best idea is to watch 2-3 episodes and decide to watch the rest or not.

This is a slice of life ecchi anime, not romance. Having "romance" as the only tag is just straight up misleading, this 1st season is not romance, not even close, I elaborate a bit more on that below. As a slice of life show I'd say it does well, and the ecchi elements will take you by surprise if you don't like the genre or it's not what you're looking for.
The 2 mcs are fine, but only the male lead has some character development, the female has close to none for some reason. The side characters don't really get much focus besides a few episodes
...
which is okay if we stick to treating this show as slice of life. Same goes for the story, has only a little drive through copslaying but that's about it.
It really is just a slice of life anime with a ton of spicy scenes that go beyond fan service. I rated it 7 but gave it "mixed feelings" because of the misleading tags.
------ LIGHT SPOILER ------
Labeling this as "romance" is a joke, does having a crush on someone and doing nothing about it the entire show counts as romance? Hell no. Literally there's nothing more happening than building up a crush in the first 4-5 episodes then nothing develops from that. The ending is not an ending, just a cooldown episode to warm up for the next season. So if all the romantic development happens in the 2nd season, why label this season as romance?

Overall good, but the movie was confusing several times, had some inconsistencies. By the end of the movie it becomes much more clear what the movie is about and these flaws can just be the result of the artistic freedom the writer/director took, but it's hard to tell on the first watch, not everyone picks up on the deeper message/fantasy plot that fast, it's really not that straight forward except for the ending, so many parts of the movie comes off confusing and weird.
I'm not familiar with the source material but 1h 20m feels short, it makes the pacing, characters and story feel unpolished and
...
rushed. There's close to no depth to the side characters, everyone has their bit and that's about it. Even the MCs are not as detailed as they should be. Art and sound are okay, it's not noticably good or bad.
In hindsight most confusing/inconsistent parts make more sense, so judging the movie after the first watch is not as obvious as it seems. I rated it 7, but it's more likely to be either a 6 or 8 after a second watch with more context.

For me one of the most infuriating things is when I watch an anime, feel like something is missing and then find out the reason I was missing something is because it's a poor adaptation and many things were left out from the manga/LN. This happened here and it's such a shame because this movie would've been rated really higher if it wasn't for this.
First off the animation, the art style and the voice acting were crazy good. I personally don't pay too much attention to these things but even I could notice this stands out from other animes. The story in general is fine,
...
it's honestly not that complicated or deep, it's more about the journey if that makes sense and the movie sucks you in that way. The MCs are written well but the side characters get barely any screentime, even the MCs get less than they should've but the reason is below for all this.
Now to the issues: The movie is way too short. No wonder many many details were left out, side characters got no screentime and the story has incredibly bad pacing in the 2nd half of the movie. This alone ruins what could've been an instant classic. Now that doesn't mean the movie is bad, it's still good, but it could've been great and knowing that they had a really good source material to work with it leaves a bad taste in your mouth feeling like you got robbed of an amazing experience.
If you read mangas/LNs go for those instead of the movie to get the full experience, if you don't that's fine, just keep in mind you're missing out

This anime checks every boxes, the story is meaningful and has an important message, the characters are mostly good, audio and visuals are enjoyable, the execution is on point. Only issue is that many things from the manga were left out, the most noticable is the lack of focus on side characters. I'd assume they didn't want the movie to be longer with already 2 hours of running time, but honestly it could've been made into a 8-9 episode series instead.
Overall a beautiful movie, if it wasn't for these minor issues it would've been a 10, regardless a must watch if you like drama or
...
even just not opposed to drama

It was an enjoyable drama/romance/tearjerker movie but honestly a bit lackluster considering how praised this anime is. Maybe it's just me personally, but it didn't hit as hard as other dramas like YLIA. When the very sudden and sad twist happened I just didn't feel as emotional and even after it. Maybe 1h 40m was not enough to feel attachment, well not enough at least, but I'm not familiar with the novel so I'm not sure if it would've been possible to make the movie longer.
Not much to say about the animation, it wasn't outstandingly good or bad. The 2 mcs are written well, the
...
supporting cast got little to no screentime, so no complaints there either.
