Isekai Shikkaku

A Good Funny parody take on Isekai Genre.
The most comparable anime to this one would be kunosuba, but this take on a more dark tone, with more real life and adult perspective, a bored to death adult writer one as that. As well as this is one of the few isekai that the MC is not from the present day world, but the 1900s instead, so there's also many interesting aspect in that.

Full review:
First of all, the concept and parody itself is pretty good, funny, and unique. ... Since the protagonist isn't from the present day world, he find many things that's already cemented itself in isekai as normal as weird things, like concept called "stats" etc. Which in concept by itself, can already make for a pretty fun anime to watch for me, but add in with its parody nature, and the bored to death adult nature of the MC, make this even more funnier. Also the fact that the protagonist is a writer, making fun and self aware jokes to this isekai world is hella funny too. [10/10 comedy, concept]

Secondly, I will talk about the characters, pacing, directing, and world building. The few main prominent characters we have is actually fun, have good and well written story and personality, that when mixed together is very enjoyable to watch by itself, while the side character while only is single used so far, is ok and believable enough, or just a complete goof ball for the sake of the joke [9/10 characters]. The pacing is also pretty good for an isekai and as an anime in general, with average of 3-5 scene / action per episode, make for the perfect pacing for a comedy anime [10/10 pacing].

The directing and world building is pretty ok in this anime. While not too flashy, it did it job, with some above average world building and lore behind it [8/10]. The production quality is also pretty above average for an isekai, and did play well into the comedy and scenes when it's need to [9/10]. Lastly I will mention this for people that want action, there's barely in here, so don't even think of wanting one, it's just not the style of anime.

Last but not least is the message. Many people will barely even expect this, but as most comedy show do, they will always have the lurking message of the anime that will punch out the comedy and drown you with wholesomeness sometime. This anime message is pretty good and actually not one that've been in many anime much, and it also play well into the MC comedy style as well [10/10 message]

Overall, this anime doesn't have much flaws, other than if you don't click with the protag adult cast style, or the journey/travel story style,. The only concern I would left off is that the future of this anime is very shaky still, since they will need to be creative to keep this up and there's no direction toward the end goal right now. If you've watched many isekai and other anime before this, you will find this anime very enjoyable and relatable. Just enjoy it as a comedy parody relief.

This anime is one of the gems of the season.
First off please check the Genre - Isekai Parody
It should be enough to let you know if you want to start it.

Story - It has a unique story about an isekaid MC who actually doesn't want to be there and just wanted to die. (In trailer and first minute of show)
The misadventures that follow are hilarious and have more depth than many famous shows.
This show is having great writing and it showed till 4th ep and will continue in upcoming episodes.
Characters - Each relevant character is given depth as and when needed which explains why they ... behave the way they do.
Animation - The animation quality is good.
Direction - The show is having great pace making each episode worth watching.
There are no laggard/filler episodes to just grab money by elongating season.

Overall - 9*/10*

Watching a promising anime idea be ruined by romantic cliches and fanservice is disappointing. The emphasis on the side characters’ devotion to the main character for no apparent reason weakens the plot. The presence of cringeworthy scenes and the show’s attempt to appeal to specific demographics – be it fans of “neko” or “milf” characters – weakens the show even further. It would be much better if the narrative could be told without having to rely on these stunts.

Also I'm growing increasingly tired of the predictable formula in many anime shows: introduce a male protagonist, and shortly after he is surrounded by a group of ... sexually suggestive women. Whether it is an elf with large features or an underage girl with an unrealistic silhouette, or a half-human, half-animal creature, the pattern is the same and it is also difficult to describe all this while remaining professional so yeah.

This is certainly not my first anime that I've seen where we've had a character (loosely) based off of famed writer Osamu Dezaki, suicidal tendencies and all, even some of his works being incorporated into the show (his most famous work reworded into the title of Isekai Shikkaku, No Longer Allowed In Another World), Bungo Stray Dogs and the Aoi Bungaku series come to mind. Anybody who is slightly aware of this man knows what they're probably getting themselves into, and I was no different.

I thought I could still stomach such a show, and at one stage of my life I most certainly could have. ... I'm of the belief that anything can be parodied and made light of, nothing is off limits. It all comes down to who you are as a person and what experiences you've been through. I won't go into too many details, but unfortunately, suicide is something that has tormented myself and my Family for some time now. Seeing your own Mother, such a strong willed women, break down in tears every now and then, beside herself, is a horrible thing to see and go through. The "lead up" chipped away at her bit by bit and a part of her also died that day.

I don't think I even find it THAT offensive... just incredibly uncomfortable, his little idiosyncrasies, they bring up thoughts and memories of just crap that has completely drained my Family, his aloof and always tired disposition, they way he snacks on pills is absolutely disgusting and managed to trigger me greatly, the way he speaks "as a matter of factly" about wanting to die (and the princess also coming to that conclusion in episode 2), it's pretty unpleasant to sit through an entire episode of this, let alone an entire season, especially if every fricking detail is somehow relatable. I know it's supposed to not be taken seriously, hell, I might have even chuckled at a joke or two, but my threshold line is much too short.

This is a pretty personal review and I have no doubt a lot of people would find this show enjoyable and hilarious, as it was intended to be. Which is fine. I'm just giving a different perspective on things here. If you've been through similar stuff and can still stomach a show such as this, then more power to you. I hope to get there one day as well.

I was going to wait for all episodes to air before writing my review but having watched episode 4 i cant wait no longer!

This is a comedy story about a person who was about to commit double suicide but failed as he was hit by a truck before he and his lover? could actually commit.
(We all know that being hit by truck-kun means you get reincarnated in another world).

So how can a story about someone who want to commit suicide be funny? Is it even funny?
The answer is yes! Its definitely quite funny, despite me having a close family member who tried but ... failed to commit suicide themself, I definitely be enjoying the show.

This show has comedy, a big-bosom-blond-elf!, a big-bosom-black-haired-cat-girl! not to mention all the super powers, “cheat skills” that comes with any isekai which is a comedy.

If you like comedy-anime or isekai-anime, this show is definitely for you to get watching.

"Isekai Shikkaku" is a kind of parody of Isekai anime. The main character, who often contemplates suicide, is transported to another world. There, he continues his journey with the same dark intentions, seeking to find a girl he likes and die together.

Despite this seemingly generic premise, the anime offers more depth. Currently, only four episodes are out, so it might not seem very detailed, but by the end of the 12 episodes, you'll find it quite interesting. Trust me, there are unique twists that I can't reveal without spoiling the story.

The main character does redeem himself a bit as the story progresses. He has ... some special powers, adding to the uniqueness of the premise.

The animation quality is good, even better than "Tower of God" Season 2. If you prefer a main character who is carefree and has a dark sense of humor, you might enjoy this anime.

Overall, it's a good watch if you give it a try.

Your Typical Isekai is a weak MC from a normal world, gains powers, and becomes an OP hero in a fantasy world.

Isekai Shikkaku takes a rather unique route.

This dude wants to die. A very melodramatic writer who wants to kill himself in the real world ends up in this fantasy world where he still craves death. But your cliche troupe of women followers want him to live!

I would say this anime is a nice change of pace from your typical animes; it has funny moments and some dragging points. Beyond the main preface, the other fun part is that this is a world ... in which it is normal to summon people from other worlds, but they all seem to suck at being good.

I would spoil it for you, but if you want something a bit different but nothing that is going to blow your mind, this is a fun anime to watch

I feel like I don't know enough about Japanese culture to properly enjoy this anime.

So, in the first half of the 20th century, a suicidal author (based on real-life figure Osamu Dazai) gets isekai'ed just as he and his lover are about to commit double suicide. In this other world he is told that he's one of dozens of Earthlings summoned there supposedly to save that world from the demon lord. He is not interested in that whatsoever, only wanting to find his lover here in this new world so they can finish their double suicide pact together. And so with the first two ... members of his harem, an goddess and a cat-girl, he climbs into a coffin to get dragged around this new life in a new world to find the love of his life... so they can both end theirs together.

It's dark humor, and I'm there for it, but it's just not landing for me. Watching this anime makes me feel like an American at a Robbie Williams concert: my impression is that it's not terrible, but I don't understand the appeal. There seems to be a common trend in the Japanese parodies/satires that I've seen: stepping on the punchline (this is when you immediately point out what is supposed to be funny about what just happened, which in turn makes it not funny), and that happens all over the place here. We get set up, then punchline, and then just as I'm about to laugh another character stomps all over the punchline, leaving me not laughing at the joke. I've seen this often enough in Japanese parodies (it happens all over the place in Nozaki-kun) that I think it's part of the joke, but to my Western sensibilities, it doesn't translate.

However, this series is doing some fun things in the whole isekai parody sub-sub-genre. The idea that most people from Earth would be absolute jerks with their cheat powers isn't new, but it's an interesting way to play with the genre. I love that our protagonist is a true anti-hero; not that faux-macho, unchivalrous hero who gets called an "anti-hero" because they're a jerk, but a true anti-hero in the literary sense: a protagonist who is actively avoiding the plot; one who (in a literal sense here) is dragged from plot point to plot point with little to no agency in what happens.

I think I'll stick with this one for a few more episodes to see where it goes. I really enjoyed "Love After World Domination" from this writer-artist team, but I worry that the humor in this one feels too culturally specific to me.

Everything was good except the MC. hes was totally fake. here some point why hes so fake
1. keep telling wanna die but some plot keep him alive. meanwhile killing yourself was actually easy. some people struggling to keep alive.
2. just found reason to keep alive yet clearly he broke in less one eps
3. he has no effort to anything. his promise, his words, his action.
4. hes talking too much for someone who wanna die.

from i see here the author just trying to satire the the isekai trend. he tougth a negative person is so cool but actually is just so cringe to see how he ... brought the story. and then his harem eventually agree what hes said like wet dream every negative person u could be.
the story was made by a positive person who actually admire a negative person and tought he understand point of view being negative person.
the only reason why i keep watching this probably the animation was good and i like the MC voice and the heroine lmao. other than that its just trash anime with wet dream author.

For such a straightforward anime with a weak main character, it's surprisingly good. It doesn't dive deep or get too complex, but it brings something totally fresh to the isekai table that you just don't see often.

It takes a bold step away from the typical isekai formula; where there are no overpowered characters here, no intricate magic systems, and no kingdoms to save. Instead, what "Isekai Shikkaku" offers is a unique slice of life perspective that just feels earnest.

What's most interesting about this anime is its ability to hold the audience's attention without relying on common tropes, but simple fresh humor. The protagonist isn't ... here to save the world or uncover hidden powers, but to navigate the peculiarities of life in another dimension, as a man whose only wish is to die, preferably with a lady.

Visually, the anime doesn't aim for flashy animation but opts for a more onsistent aesthetic that matches the tone of the story.

I can't believe I'm saying this, given how critical I've been of anime lately, but I'd actually give this one an 8/10.
What really caught my interest was how the story manages its protagonist, I always find myself questioning what he's going to do next.
He simply stands out through his personality and self-awareness, which he unintentionally uses to help out other characters and humorously defeat enemies that come into the story.

I have only watched up to 3 but it was awful, I was interested in the story until they started adding in ecchi and random erotica moments for no reason. You had a good thing going but what was the point in the whole thing? This guy only had interest in one person and then you give him a harem?
Every single character has to be a female and have such erotic scenes, makes 0 sense. Just overall another wanna be jobless reincarnation grossness. Can we get rid of this genre of storytelling.

I was not a fan of the synopsis to begin with, but I tried it regardless. You'll find many people talk about how funny this show is, and perhaps it most likely will appeal to a certain group of audience. I, however, am not a part of that and I don't actually find anything that happens in this show to be funny. In my opinion, it tries a bit too hard to be funny, but everything is just superficial. There is a main storyline, but all the other side stories are overpowering it all, and you don't even see it much. I am 4 episodes ... in and this is where I drop it because it is just overly repetitive at this point.

I give a 3/10 for storytelling. It is just like any other isekai show without any depth to it. The main character is summoned to another world by the truck-kun experience. Unlike other main characters, this one was actually planning on dying and is still trying to do so in this otherworld. No matter what he does, he never dies and everyone else keep revolving around him without any reason. We get the 2nd companion who is a cat lady, and she just tags along because the main character saves her by mistake (even if it were intentional, it is still weird for her to follow him around). There's no real sense of danger because we already know the main character and his companions will make it out of every situation, and anyone who dares to challenge them is going to fall no matter what.

Contrary to the story, the animation, art and soundtracks all seem to be fine. But the story is one of the main things that should never be ignored, which this series continually seems to do. There are far better shows out there to entertain yourself with than to keep on watching a dull show as this which insensitively plays around with suicidal stuff.

Even if you do decide to watch it, it is just your average isekai to pass your time.

I don't recommend this and i don't see how anyone else would enjoy it tbh. I really tried, but suicide is not a funny topic, and I didn't find anything fun or comedic about this anime. I thought it would be fun since they're making fun of the Isekai genre and truck-kun, but no. The overly sexualized girls don't help much either. What a waste! especially since the main dude is hot and the story actually had potential.

I dropped bungo stray dogs for the exact same reason. I donno why authors think that a character constantly trying to die is supposed to be funny?

Trash ecchi isekai and theres nothing else to it. If you like trash isekai and overly sexualized characters this is for you. Characters lack depth and motives. There are no consequences for actions and the characters lack communication skills. The women are sexualized and dumb yet the show isnt labled as ecchi? Most of the shading and detail work goes into the boobs tummy and hips of the women. If you are a woman then avoid this show. It left an uneasy feeling with me. The MC is just some depressed codependent loser who cant achieve his own goals. The show is extremely predictable full ... of overused tropes and poor voice acting.

If you read any of my reviews it becomes immediately obvious how much I hate plot armor and plot conveniences. Shows in which writers for lack of time or creativity will just come up with random thing that solves problem at hand. It's lazy and annoying and most importantly insulting to the viewer.

That said never have I ran into show whose whole premise is based on everything magically developing around main character who tries his best not to do anything. Until now. Episode after episode is him not doing anything and people trampling over each other to please him for no reason what so ever. ... Magic of plot convenience. There is a story somewhere in there but is it really worth following and discussing? We already know whichever direction story goes our main character will show up, do nothing and everything will be according to his wishes.

Not to make a labor of it, in short it's boring. Whatever keeps happening MC is not part of it and things just flow around him as if he's a rock in a stream. People die, love and hate but he's above that. He's chasing for his love to die with. Initially I gave it a 6, thinking it's fine and it'll go somewhere but I decided to lower it. Art is good, music is good, but story doesn't exist and it's anything but average. So it gets not recommended and an immediate drop from me. Really can't imagine whose this story is for.
