I usually do not leave negative reviews, but recently I have found them very useful when deciding whether to pick up new stories as we are in the era where there is a LOT of good stories, but not all are for everyone.
So as a result, this review is not challenging the objective consensus that this is a great shounen, but rather providing you an insight if you are the kind of person that will probably not resonate well with this particular shounen.
In its core JJK is a classical shounen however on the darker side. The issues that made this shounen not resonate with me were the following:
1. Action, action, more action - I have nothing against a good fight, but JJK truly loves to live in action anf constant fights. At times it feels like a John Wick movie - I hate John Wick. If you are a type of person who can t be bothered with constant fighting with minimal dialogue - that this is something to consider, coz unlike clasiccal shounen that usully prolongs fight via dialogie, JJK prolongs fights via choreography.
2. The world - I have talked to multiple JJK fans and most can t even fully explain the world of JJK after watching 2 seasons, if that bothers you in your shounen this may not be IT for you, coz the JJK world is one of the more complicated shounen worlds out there so you will eaither gotta lock in, or live with the fact you dont get it.
3. Dark - for most a benefit for some a negative. For me I treat shounen like my weekends - i want them to be chill, fun and fill me with motivation to wake up on Monday. JJK aint gonna do that, if anything it will make your Monday alarm sound evne more depresing.
4. Lack of meaningful message - You could say JJK has some messages, but since the MC does such a poor job even being present it rarely hits. You could define the message as - "dont die with regrets", which one could argue Itadori truly should have just died episode 1 and would have less regrets than he will probably have in the last chapter - but hey the story is ongoing so on this line it may get better.
All in all if at least 3/4 of these resonated with you, you probably should not read this. If 0-1 resonated with you I d say it very safe to say you should give it a try.
