The theme of this review is the "illusion of hard work". The anime itself is a mediocre soulless isekai-like that isn't worth watching, in case you want a TLDR.

A very interesting phenomenon that I observe regularly is that almost every person will complain about how hard their life is or how hard they're working. In most cases this is not true though, therefore illusion of hard work. This happens because "hard work" is universally seen as a virtue in all societies and there is something truly fascinating when hard work is rewarded, because it often isn't. This idea also found its way into the anime ... culture, which is to be expected from a country with one of the highest number or work hours per day in developed countries. It gave birth to the "talentless hard worker" character archetype, which is now relatively common.

The main character of this anime - Rick, is basically that. The talentless hard worker... which is completely not real. Just like in reality all the hard work people are usually fake, in anime there is no hard work. It's all power fantasy for losers. About as soon as episode 4, we find that Rick actually has an overpowered skill. Did he actually work for it? Nope. While spending the first 3 episodes on depicting hardcore work/training that he went through, all of that is invalidated completely in a single moment. This obvious disconnect between what the anime claims to show and what it really shows is insulting to my intelligence as a viewer.

The first example of a fake hard worker that comes to my mind is Naruto. The show follows a similar pattern, depicting Naruto as a talentless loser and then the convenient fox power saves the day every single time, something that he never worked for. It even ends with him literally being 1/2 Jesus, chosen child of prophecy all along. Other notable examples - Deku from My Hero Academia and Asta from Black Clover (I'm seeing a trend). In all of them, the hard work is an illusion. Basically the only anime that shows REAL hard work over time with actual no talent is World Trigger.

The rest of my criticism is just all the usual baggage that most anime today have, especially light novel adaptations - the whole world exists only to blow the main character, the antagonists are cartoonishly evil, the other support characters have no value to offer as well. The second most important character is literally a maid. This honestly is just H fantasies of the author. Also, screw the gaming stuff, I want my pure medieval fantasy back.

"It's never too late to follow your dreams"

Shinmai Ossan Boukensha, Saikyou Party ni Shinu hodo Kitaerarete Muteki ni Naru, explores the life of Rick, who at the age of 30 wants to become an adventurer, where this dream comes through a simple heroic story that he read in a book, but for him, it is something special and inspiring enough for him to work hard to achieve, it through disciplineds trainings. The premise itself seems interesting, but over the course of the episodes It becomes increasingly evident how bad this anime is in many ways, I will develop this idea throughout the review.


The story, as ... previously stated, is simplistic or better said, generic. This anime is the same as what you may have seen, which is something like: "a protagonist trains hard to achieve his goals, but there will be people who don't accept him", this type of story only in the summer season of 2024(the year this anime was released, in case you are reading this in the future) there are two other animes with this same premise which I left in quotes, are they:Ore wa Subete wo "Parry" suru: Gyaku Kanchigai no Sekai Saikyou wa Boukensha ni Naritai, and another is Tsue to Tsurugi no Wistoria. And I'm not just talking about this 2024 season in question, currently, every year, this type of anime where the only thing that's different is the characters and animation, are made regularly, everyone copies each other. However, unlike these two that I mentioned previously, the anime I'm reviewing here manages to be the worst of the three in several ways. A story just about training, fighting monsters, fighting villains, protecting the innocent, and that's it. That's the story, I literally just summarized the entire content of the anime.

Already the characters in this anime one are terrible in many ways, starting with Rick, who is simply a lazy-written character, it seems like the author doesn't really care about the characters in this anime. I say this because Rick is literally a generic character who trains, trains, trains...The anime will always only make this explicit in each episode, making the character something empty, because it lacks emotions, objectives, an interesting life story, and development it's just about training, training and training... Just that and nothing more. The other characters are no different either, the entire cast only has two roles in the story:help or hinder Rick, that's all. None of them are explored enough to be interesting for the plot. They are all generic, empty and you simply can't take any of them seriously.

The animation is also not good, the line/art itself is ugly to look at. The scenarios have terrible animations, the fights have almost no movement between the characters. The animation in general is mediocre, it's the same ones you see in low-budget isekai/fantasy animes, everything is forgettable and visually it's poorly done.

The sound is also negligible. The opening and closure are bad, you will hardly remember the song you hear in both, because both the instruments and the lyrics of the song are insignificant, as well as the poorly done visuals. It's all as forgettable as most isekai anime you've probably watched.

The world itself seems to be the same as you will see in other anime throughout your life, with monsters, powers and a basic power system, there is not much to say because the anime doesn't manage to develop the initial ideas of the world well, "but why?" because the story is focused on showing how much Rick is improving in training. The author just doesn't care much about it.

Well, just don't watch this, it's generic, the direction/animation and characters are terrible. It's something you could watch to pass the time if it had something good, but in this case there's nothing. Anything...It's all just simplistic, empty and poorly done. Just.

Had a strong start, went on to make a good character developing sequence along with satisfying light story to make the MC something you can root for.

Only to fuck it all up at episode 4 with the backstory making him yet another "specialest of special boys" that this premise did not call for in the least. Seriously, why build up the MC in terms of taking a late-start and break conventions only to paint him as something "special" and not as something that breaks social norms and standards?

I was hoping to see the "hard work payout" story occur here rather than yet another case of ... "specialest little boy" story play out, I guess I was wrong...

For that? I can't without good conscience give this anything but the lowest score as my first time ever review, the sheer audacity in misleading is absolutely horrific to speak of.
