Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan

We gather here today, deerly beloved, to take a look at Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan, a special show with many CGI deer friends. I have an inkling that the premise, in the Japanese way of unique advertisement, is to sell the beautiful commodity that is deer crackers. You see, these deer crackers can:
1) Act as payment
2) Potentially save a LIFE
Did I mention, they are crispy not hard? Most delicious and flavorless.

Other elements tossed into the anime thus far include a fun dance with a bopping opening song, yuri bait, cute real life content featuring deerkind, a touch of horror, and, deer god, even some good ... ol puebescent harassment. Oh deer indeed.
As wacky and discordant the storytelling is here, 3/3 episodes have been enjoyable thus far. The humor leans on shock value, so expect the unexpected, peppered with some fun classic tropes. Truly I am here for a plot that is deer to me - and if you enjoy our adorable four-legged friends as much as I do, this show's for you! ...If you deer. Fingers crossed on whether the whole cast will morph into deer before episode 10

Half of the anime has been released, that is enough for anyone to conclude their thought. The anime did not live up to the hype.

It is important to address that the Shikanokokokokoshitatan have been doing a good job with the animation, the art, and other effects. The anime itself is not terrible, it is somewhat enjoyable. So, what went wrong? The humor. Before the anime was released, plenty of memes and pr of this anime had been spreading rapidly, to the point where there would be one Shikanoko post for every three posts on social media.

In contrast with the high expectations, however, the humor in ... the anime feels forced and childish, the kind of humor a 9 yo would laugh at. The anime doesn't feel like it is made for children whatsoever, there are sexual and incest jokes, not suitable for what feels like the target age. The studio likely wants to imitate the kind of humor in Bocchi the Rock and Nichijou, but overdone it and what was supposed to be humor is now just some cringy jokes. There are some laughable jokes, just that there are more times when it feels more awkward than funny.

Overall, Shikanoko is a fine but overhyped anime with a little bad taste in humor. It is hard to recommend this anime but it is not bad enough to avoid entirely either. Humor is subjective, give it a try and see if it will fit.

Felt like a 2010s anime aimed towards the youth. As an older watcher (nearing 30!), most of the humor felt pretty generic and regurgitated from the 'norm' of comedy anime. Virgin jokes, shock humor, over-the-top anger, lewd jokes, etc. If that's your thing, go and enjoy, no hate. For me, I've gone through waves of these types of content so they make me roll my eyes at this point.

It was a cute concept, and the first episode had me pretty interested, but I feel as if it dropped the ball pretty hard. The antlers-door shattering joke was great and kept me hook alongside the interesting ... characters, but at this point it felt like they repeated themselves multiple times and I'm only on episode 3.

Opening is a banger though

I like to use the 3 episode rule on most animes, unfortunately when I got to the 3rd episode me and my brother got bored out of our minds and decided to watch youtube videos instead.

The anime is cliché, and the use of tropes is borderline uninspiring. You have your straight-man character, incestuous little sister, crackhead and crackhead num2. I could not think of how the show could ever build on these character tropes at all. You’re basically watching for the deer girl and some queer baiting.

The only flavor this show has going for it is the deer premise, and even then the show fails ... at actually making it interesting, deciding on making the characters just argue and argue with mc. Which to me, is not interesting in the slightest.

The animation is cute and simple, I don’t have any major problems with it, and the voice acting is great.

I know this kind of humor resonates with some people and it’s not unwatchable. It’s just average, nothing really stands out when you get past the deer.

Humor is subjective, luckily this anime is factually just bad, no need for subjective opinions, the only good thing about this is at least what you see in the first episode is more or less what you get in the others, only with an increasing amount of characters (Its only 4 episodes out when I write this, so we will see if this remains true).
I have two theorys about the creation of this anime, both being equally bad for the creators.
First, this was supposed to be a Nichijou type weird/comedy/SOL anime, but they took all the wrong turns, they selected all the wrong dialogue options
The ... second being more plausible and honestly sadder, is that they just wanted to capitalise in the roaring meme industry and pulled a "how do you do fellow kids" move and tried to sell this off as something funny and watchable.
In short, the characters are pretty bad, even for a "comedy" anime, the setting is just dafuck level bad and tieing into that is the gag humor (the setting, or more like the lack of any character with an IQ of above room temperature (in Kelvin) is supposed to be reinforcing the gag humor) just does not stick. Its like they throw a handful of shit in every minute at your face from the screen and see what sticks. It can be a good tactic, but here it is not. I think this is a prime example of what happens, when the marketing team decides to make an anime as a quick cash grab, because #relatable#memes#brainrot#buymerch

To be fair there are way worse animes out there and we did not get to see the full season of the anime, so it can get better (doubtful), I would not give it big hopes tough.

I haven't written a review in a minute but honestly, I should start making more reviews. I could see why ppl have mixed feelings about this show. I'm into comedy and ngl the amount of hype this received and the amount of ppl that were calling this "peak" and are now saying comedy is subjective are the ones who are coping.

There isn't much of a story, it's a character driven show but even then, the characters are really generic.

Art-8/10
The animation is actually good, I like the character designs. There are noticeable moments where the animation does get better.

Sound-7/10
I like the opening, ... it's pretty catchy. The sound effects are very good as well, the soundtrack does get repetitive like really fast, every 5 minutes I hear the shika soundtrack, which kinda gets annoying.

Characters-6/10
None of the characters have depth into them, they're pretty much one dimensional and generic.

Enjoyment-6/10
the comedy gets repetitive really fast, nokotan and bashame are airheads, and their jokes are pretty predictable. The soundtrack gets me annoyed every time I hear shiiiiiiikaaaaaaa in both female and male voice. There are some moments where the main character gets exposed and it's kind of is funny to an extent but for the most time isn't really good at what it's supposed to be.

If ur into very generic shows and don't care much about comedy in a comedy, then I guess this is this is the show for u.

Leaving aside the funny OP and the dance that made the whole internet dance Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan is a crazy comedy anime where the only one with a sane mind is the protagonist while the other characters are worthy of being treated like Arkham Asylum and the biggest madness that has everyone in silly is a deer girl who will form the odd duo of the season

The comedy is funny but it is not an anime to be able to repeat all the time very quickly you get tired of it many of the jokes feel like repeated it is as if it took the ... best of different comedy anime episodes and added the deer to the equation, I like the animation they chose the character design is very practical since in all amounts we will see many mood changes and facial expressions

For the moment the deer are earning a 6

The hype preceding this anime was totally poised to oversell the whole thing, and, as it seems, it did. From what it seems, people tended to expect an explosion of postmodernist insanity. What they (well, we) got was something completely different. It's not bad. It's just something else.

In my eyes, there are several anime that are blindingly beautiful in their postmodernism, albeit for different reasons. Those would be Nichijou (which actually features a deer), Wasteful Days of High School Girls, Sabage-bu, and Asobi Asobase. And the hype surrounding this anime even before its release obviously led some people to believe that it would join their ... flock.

From the looks of it, it didn't. And get me right, it is not bad by any stretch. This anime is quite funny, nice, and kind-heartedly silly. The postmodernism and lots of easter eggs and anime references are all there. There is not a single reason to drop it.

But does it reach the stellar heights of exquisite, exuberant postmodernist absurdity like Asobi Asobase or Nichijou? I'm afraid not. So, actually enjoying Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan requires you to abandon those expectations and just go with the flow. This way, it's quite funny. The thing is that it's just not funny enough. Not even remotely on par with Nichijou, Wasteful Days, Sabage-bu, and Asobi Asobase.

With the recent popularity of this anime, they spared no immeasurable criticism about it. They are very linear episodes, expect nothing more than jokes that try to catch you off guard but are not the epitome of comedy, rather, it is a somewhat forced attempt to try to make you laugh with recurring jokes referring to deer, which if it is already getting monotonous, I can't imagine watching the remaining chapters. However, it is still entertaining, having charismatic characters that although with repetitive jokes, create a nice atmosphere for a viewer who wants to kill some time, and nothing more than that. Therefore, although sometimes ... not much happens without a laugh, this absurd show that overflows with charisma even in its marketing can be catchy and entertaining.

Give it a chance, one or two episodes, it's a good show to entertain you for a while, although if you want to see a similar comedy but better achieved, I recommend you to watch or re-watch Nichijou or Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
