I'm an elitist pig anime watcher, and while I act like I know something (and literally know nothing), there is one true aspect I'm an expert in - overpowered MC trash. Is this show generic? Yes. Is it stupid? Yes. Is it genuinely pretty good? In my opinion, 100%.

A big fan of the manga, the backstory of the main characters turn out to be great. Rick's party Orihalcon Fist is fun on screen, the waifus are cute, and the production is surprisingly good. While the world building and magic system is rehashed and generic, the self-aware humour keeps it a little fresh and the lovable ... "40-something" year old MC makes me feel young and hopeful. The following arc is great - Broughston's past in the manga honestly made me tear up.

If you're a fan of overpowered MC trash I'd definitely recommend "Shinmai Ossan Boukensha". If you don't yet have this aquired taste then maybe this show isn't for you and you'll think this review is batsh*t insane.

Being in my late 20s as of the point of writing, and as a new anime watcher with less than a year of experience. I always wondered, had I started too late to do anything, be it trying a new sport or experience, when comparing to people who started in their teens or younger and have tons of experience?

This show is a good example of a simple concept show that is inspirational and shows that hard work overcomes born talent. While the concept is definitely done a thousand times by now, what make the show (and I Parry Everything) stood out for me is the ... use of an over 30s main characters to drive the message and it couldn't have aired at a better time.

When I was watching this, I was on a (as of writing) 6 month hiatus of not skateboarding, because I just felt like I'm just terrible as compared to people who are younger than me, or people who are older and had way more experience and I couldn't help but keep trying to make excuses to think that it's because I started late and I don't have the talent.

Three episodes of this is enough to make me tear up because the message the show sent was genuine, it is not about how much talent a person have, it is the effort, and I want to treat this as a way to keep pushing myself and to stop making excuses. For a person who only teared up twice previously in his short 1 year watching anime, this is one of the best anime I've seen, not because of the concept, but because of the strong and powerful message sent.

Overall, I'd say a strong 8 for me so far, hoping the pacing can keeps up and hoping this show will encourage more people who are in their late 20s and older to realise that it is never too late to start anything.

Quitting his job as a guild receptionist to make his dream come true - makes one think this dude had a middle age crisis, anyway, he decided to become an adventurer with the ultimate goal of slaying the legendary beast.

In a world where you have to start magic training in your teens because it will only get harder/impossible to improve the older you get, we have our Mc who is “40 ish”.

We have smooth animation, no clay doll cgi (thank god), magic, swords, martial arts, vampire loli, orc with healing magic, dwarf whom crafts guns!

There is nothing new here but this show is definitely ... worth watching.
Gotta love the message this show has too, which i interpreters it to be:
“As long as you want to and as long as your ready to shed some sweat n tears, its never to late to change”
