Although is only has 8.5 chapters as of this post there is still quite a bit to say about this manga. It touches on a lot of what ecchi should be and the way to show that in a pleasing way to the viewers. In a time where the latest ecchi works are just whitewashed hentai I feel this was a refreshing step back to enjoy.
Story: 7
As ecchi stories go this one doesn’t touch on any new bases we haven’t seen before, however, the combination of the “neighbor,” “mangaka,” and “ditz” tropes all flow very well. It has good pacing with the development of the
...
characters relationship and keeps the reader interested in how things will develop next in an exciting way.
Art: 9
To be honest, when I saw this title and cover I thought it was a full hentai work but was pleasantly surprised to see it had an interesting plot that did not require full sending into the nc-17 territories. The facial expressions describe their inner feelings with or without dialogue and are pleasing to the eye. The proportions of the bodies work very well to keep your eye drawn to the characters. (Pun intended) The backgrounds are good enough to tell us the location but don’t particularly amaze in any way. The thing that is most impressive to me is that although no 1 thing artistically makes this too different from other manga, the placement and thought behind each line, panel to panel, is portrayed so clearly for us to understand the characters in a meaningful way.
Character: 6
While the art is good and the story is entertaining, the thing I found most lacking is the characters themselves. I enjoy watching their interactions but there is minimal information on the female characters (Shimazaki and Ponzu) other than them being mangaka and the male lead (Oshino) can be summarized entirely as a “honest, shy and helpful neighbor.” Although it is an ecchi, it is because of that that we need more details about the characters to balance our expectations. Having said that, I’m a fan of both the male and female leads’ personalities. The way Shimazaki dives into her work body first head second is a comedic treat that leads into Oshino’s weak willed yet committed personality very well. Oshino’s expressions also speak volumes and really connects me to the character in a relatable way.
Enjoyment: 10
From chapter 0 to 8.5 every scene has had me excited for the next one. Although this is by no means a perfect manga, it is still one I would follow without question. Each development in the story and between the characters is funny, exciting and slightly bashful for the reader and I can only hope the artist returns soon.
