Spy x Family

Corrupt politicians, frenzied nationalists, and other warmongering forces constantly jeopardize the thin veneer of peace between neighboring countries Ostania and Westalis. In spite of their plots, renowned spy and master of disguise "Twilight" fulfills dangerous missions one after another in the hope that no child will have to experience the horrors of war.

In the bustling Ostanian city of Berlint, Twilight dons the alias of "Loid Forger," an esteemed psychiatrist. However, his true intention is to gather intelligence on prominent politician Donovan Desmond, who only appears rarely in public at his sons' school: the prestigious Eden Academy. Enlisting the help of unmarried city hall clerk Yor Briar to act as his wife and adopting the curious six-year-old orphan Anya as his daughter, Loid enacts his master plan. He will enroll Anya in Eden Academy, where Loid hopes she will excel and give him the opportunity to meet Donovan without arousing suspicion.

Unfortunately for Loid, even a man of his talents has trouble playing the figure of a loving father and husband. And just like Loid is hiding his true identity, Yor—who is an underground assassin known as "Thorn Princess"—and Anya—an esper who can read people's minds—have no plans to disclose their own secrets either. Although this picture-perfect family is founded on deception, the Forgers gradually come to understand that the love they share for one another trumps all else.

I've probably lost count, but I think this is the fourth time I've watched this anime, and I finally decided to share my thoughts on it! Honestly, it's one of the cutest and funniest animes I’ve come across. The main character, Anya, is such a breath of fresh air—unlike many annoying anime kids, she’s downright charming!

Anya's got this dream life with her telepathic powers, which, let’s be real, would be amazing for anyone. Plus, her parents are totally intriguing—a spy dad and a mom who's a bit of a rogue—and they’re both on this mission for world peace. Little do they know, Anya can ... hear all their secrets thanks to her abilities!

What I adore about Anya is her secretive little nature. She’s just so cute, and her supernatural skills fit her character perfectly. Now, let’s break it down: the story is refreshing and really stands out, making it so engaging. The characters are well-crafted, and we can really get behind their personalities.

The voice acting is top-notch, bringing the characters to life, and the opening and ending themes are fantastic, along with a soundtrack that just works! As for the animation, it’s good—maybe not mind-blowing, but definitely enjoyable. I did notice there was a bit too much CGI at times, which made things a little clunky, but overall, it still holds up well.

Mixed Feelings

It's a bizarre mix of elements from an American film with anime elements. In my opinion, it shines the most when it's being bullshit and makes no sense at all. But the moment it tries to take itself seriously, everything falls apart.

This happens because the structure of the series is not something that allows it to be taken seriously. This is evident even from the fact that any character other than the main trio is extremely one-dimensional, in addition to the fact that the only personality of all the women in the series is loving the protagonist.

Despite all the ... problems, the series' absurd production, combined with extremely unique and refreshing premise makes spy x family an charming and unique work.

hahaha that was LITERALLY a kid's show I just watched. Like, I might show my child this show in the future and they would really enjoy it. You know how lots of slice of life animes are in middle school or high school because that's the target audience they're trying to hit? This show isn't meant to be slice of life but anya is in kindergarten so it literally could be. i really don't think ANYTHING interesting happened in that show like at all. Some good funny moments though. Understandably there is probably more interesting things happening later in the show but I"m probably not ... going to continue watching. Like there is no substance to these characters that would warrant anything genuinely interesting happening. Also this whole family in disguise thing is so contrived. What a convenient way to just hit every check box of what the kids are watching these days. At least in Conan he's like actually working on cases and stuff. If you liked this but thought sword art online was dumb ur literally a hypocrite lol
