Yozakura-san Chi no Daisakusen

After losing his entire family in a car crash, Taiyou Asano tries to pull away from his childhood friend, Mutsumi Yozakura, but she assures him she is not going anywhere. Nevertheless, Taiyou becomes socially awkward, struggling to make friends at school despite the efforts of his persistent classmates.

One day, the vice principal calls Taiyou to his office, only to begin threatening the boy's life. Taiyou is swept away by a stranger and eventually awakens to Mutsumi, who introduces him to her siblings—a family of spies who harbor superhuman abilities. Every generation produces one ordinary human who becomes the family head. Mutsumi is one of these, and the family's mission is to protect her with their lives.

The vice principal's real name is Kyoichiro Yozakura, and he is the eldest son of the family. As Kyouichiro believes that Taiyou is a threat to Mutsumi's life, the only way to keep both Taiyou and Mutsumi safe is for them to get married; the family has a rule that prevents them from killing within the Yozakura household. Though at first reluctant, Taiyou agrees in order to protect Mutsumi. Now he must train as a Yozakura spy to ward off the constant threats on the lives of both Mutsumi and himself.

I've been following this series since the manga was created. This is a very interesting story, about Taiyo trying to protect Mutsumi who comes from a spy family. This story about spies is very exciting and feels new among other spy series. Because not only is there action, but it also combines cool supernatural elements. Apart from that, it not only tells the story of Taiyo as a spy and Mutsumi's husband, but also about the search for a sense of security, warmth and comfort with family. This is very good and full of meaning because it teaches about the meaning of protecting each other.

Not ... only in terms of story, even the voice acting
very suitable for their respective roles. I hope this series gets a second season with a different studio. Because, to be honest, I don't like Silver Link as the studio responsible for this series. I'm sorry, but the animation is still very stiff and not good for an anime with the Shounen-Action genre which is full of fighting scenes.

Moreover, Mission: Yozakura Family is a series from Shounen Jump with 200+ manga chapters. This series deserves a better anime adaptation and studio.

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (6/27 eps)

Is "Mission: Yozakura Family" bad? No, not by a long shot...
Is it fun to watch? Eh, it has its moments.
Should you go out of your way to watch this instead of watching a different anime? I would say there is more entertaining anime out there.

To put plainly, this is average, nothing here is outstanding or better done when compared to any other Spy/Hitman/Assassin anime.
This show is just is moderately repetitive because its episodes always have a similar ending, that being Taiyou being tested in a random or stupid way and passing it with flying colors. This being in 4 parts, first is Taiyou being ... attacked or ambushed by a random perpetrator, then two where he has to be tested that he isn't incompetent or fight for survival, three where he has to protect Mitsumi from the person or thing, then four where you either find out it's a random organization, or [more likely] that it was Kyouichirou Yozakura (Mitsumi's brother) testing him the whole time. This gets old after the 5th time for sure.

Next would be characters, they are as bland as soggy cereal, I wouldn't watch this for romance because it isn't all that amazing, it's just another romance in an action anime. And yeah I know that comedy is subjective, but I have not laughed, or chuckled at all through this entire anime, I would rather watch Skibbidi Toilet for laughs then this because this anime's entire comedy is bland & repetitive. The comedy is always "Look the kid Taiyou almost died by a remote explosive/weapon in a school/Other densely populated area! That's quirky because bombs are not typically detonated at schools or in public in Japan! This gets funny after the 7th time, trust me, guys!!! (That's sarcasm BTW)" or "Wow, the brother tried killing Taiyou with a new method?!?! How cheeky, bet he learned his lesson this time and won't do this for the entire series, thus making it repetitive...", yeah… That's about right.

As I said previously, I wouldn't tell you to not watch this, but there are just so much better spy/hitman content out there to watch than this, like Spy X Family, Fable, or Golgo-13 (I know I am missing a few great ones here).

Yozakura-san Chi no Daisakusen is a comedy show about a young lad, his girlfriend and her chaotic family of spies.

Have you watched Spy x Family? It’s like that (without the aspect of childcare) minus any pesky constraints of a government, or eyes from society. Although both do exist, however, I don’t know why characters don’t play by the usual rules.
If they want to ignore these two important factors, the definition of spies becomes without any meaning, don’t you think?

Now, due to certain circumstances, this nutty family decide to turn our MC to become a spy. And how do they do it, you ask? Well, ... how about an act of terrorism inside of a school? Yeah, because nothing screams comedy gold like potential trauma-inducing events, right? Talk about being insensitive.
Their training methods are very questionable and not funny in this series – instead of easing the poor guy into the spy game, they always choose the worst possible way to do so with a big chance he might end up dead each time. It’s like teaching someone how to drive by tossing the keys for a car moving at 200km/h (124 mph) in the middle of the road and tell them good luck, buddy.

Honestly, trying to make sense of this show or to see these things as funny is difficult, and some characters reactions to things happening makes me wonder if the writer is taking cues from an alien's guide to human behavior.
