I feel like this guy is following a trend in these power fantasy shows of being so stupid, that it could only be explained as a plot device. I'm thinking of Last Dungeon Boonies and Cheat Skill in Another World, Unrivaled in the Real World as examples to look at. How do you feel about this kind of character design?

What do you really want to talk about?
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

If you think he is “stupid” then you are not following the anime correctly
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

He is dumb as a brick but then I have to apologize to every brick in existence.
I don't mind characters who aren't aware of their own strengths but when this guy is clueless about how the country he lives in works, who is running it and other basic stuff, I can't justify it as comedy.

You’re not wrong tho Noor is dumb, he didn’t go to school and lived in the mountains all by himself, he was dumb enough to parry for 14 years straight because he didn’t know any better and just took the knowledge he learned from his sword teacher to heart.

It makes reasonable sense why he is dumb. The only knowledge he received were from fairy tale books his father told him and from the survival experiences on the mountain farming and hunting.

I think he said he only heard of huge cows from fairy tales or something, bro doesn’t even know what a Minotaur is, his dad probably told him it was just a big cow.

People are also probably not impressed by noor’s maxed level beginner skills they are probably more impressed by a beginner level advanced skill

I honestly don't know what you're trying to prove. Power fantasies aren't anything recent. They have been around for decades.

that's what I felt too. it just felt completely ridiculous in so many ways. I liked the first two episodes but the third episode really put me off this anime, like there's too much dumbness in it and it dropped the rating of this show in my eyes.

@Kolompi He literally lived in a forest for all his life. He might as well be a new born that only knows how to speak. I'm not sure how you expect him to even understand what a king is...

@zcv45 I expect him to know the most basic things about the culture that surrounds him. Since he didn't live in a forest for all his life, considering he was supposed to have spent time in each and every one of those schools, trying to get his skill. In the show it was a few short minutes but he is supposed to have spent a "full three-month term practicing at every training school" which is over a year. So he spent all that time in training with others, interacted with others but he never figured out (or overheard while others talked) at least some of the essential information about the country? I have to suspend my disbelief a little too far for that since the chances of that happening are basically zero.

@Kolompi adding to what you said in your reply he is also been working in this country as an errand boy for god knows how long. It simply requires someone to be insane to believe this guys doesn't know such basic stuff about his own country

I believe the OP is trying to say

how recent MCs in action fantasy series are all near god-like strong, but yet all have this deficiency in knowledge about common sense even if it was shown right up in their face.

Personally, I dropped like at least 70% of these action fantasy 5 episodes in... lol

I am about to drop this series if the MC doesn't improve his childish mindset by episode 5. (was gonna do the usual 3 episode, but gave this one a few more chance, since I dropped that other old men series also about being god-like strong but MC is just as stupid without an actual reason for being stupid after episode 2)

@amlg yeah it's really annoying to see grown ass adults behaving like this. After the last episode I'm already 1½ foot out the door for this show..

BTW the other ossan (old man) show is way better than this, dude finally acknowledges that he his strong after one shotting a red wyvern in episode 5... But that series I'd say there's still an acceptable reason for the MC to be ignorant, it was made known that his master(s) during training was basically saying the op shit they were doing was bare minimum for an adventurer.
